I have a project that fails with no errors in the output when running packagercmd but completes successfully when running exactly the same project file form the GUI - opening the file with the GUI, running through the options and saving to a new file yields no difference in the files.

Any suggestions?

Which version of DBG are you running? there were improvements to the cmd console output recently in version 1204.

this is the latest:
You must be logged in to see this link.

What is the command-line your process is calling in your process?

And can you call the command from a cmd.exe window?

I assume from the log you sent you are running PackagerPlusCmd.exe
And when you run using the GUI (Innovartis.DBGhost.PackagerPlus.exe) it works fine and builds an installer.

I am guessing the package build works but the compilation stage (the bit when it comstructs your executable package) could be quietly failing because of some path setting.

Using 5.0.0.1216 - I will download the latest.

Running in ant or just the command line - same result either way - no errors or problems but still returns 1.

In this case I am running packagercmd.exe and Innovartis.DBGhost.Packager.exe.

I can send a new log if you like.

The log ends with ...

8/4/2010 12:39:08 PM...Build and Synchronization completed, successfully
8/4/2010 12:39:08 PM...Unpacking code templates
8/4/2010 12:39:08 PM...Creating compilation options
8/4/2010 12:39:09 PM...Creating assembly resources
8/4/2010 12:39:09 PM...Compiling inner executable
8/4/2010 12:39:09 PM...Cleaning up temp files
8/4/2010 12:39:09 PM...Processing failed
1

This is the same result from any or the command line - the dbghost installation directory is in my path.

Obviously this is a bug which we will get fixed. I'll try to reproduce it here.

Does it succesfully create a package that you can use?

It does create a package but reports a failure - the package appears to run but we have not verified that it is accurate. We will move ahead with getting a build out today by ignoring the failure state reported by packagercmd but obviously that is not an acceptable long term approach as it will ignore legitimate failures as well.

Thank you for looking into this. Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide to help you reproduce this problem.

Just tested this on a very simple project - a single table script on the file system and nothing else - it works fine in the GUI and fails in the command line. Output below...
